About Folding@Home

This short post is intended to spread awareness quickly, please excuse the lack of content!

Folding@Home is a project that started on October 1, 2000. The goal is to provide simulations of folding proteins to help find cures to diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons, COVID-19 and more.

From the project site – “Folding@home (FAH or F@h) is a distributed computing project for disease research that simulates protein folding, computational drug design, and other types of molecular dynamics. As of today, the project is using the idle resources of personal computers owned by volunteers from all over the world. Thousands of people contribute to the success of this project.

Getting Started

Start by downloading the client for your supported operating system from their website: https://foldingathome.org/alternative-downloads/.

For Windows (and my apply to the rest), simply install/start the program and choose a desired intensity like Low, Medium or Full. The program will use your CPU and/or GPU at your desired level and complete Work Units.

Hit Start/Fold/Play (whichever view you have will be different wording, whether Web or Advanced) and let it complete work units!

Here’s a preview of my setup:
