UniFi Wi-Fi Throughput Test Not Working

Steps to help troubleshoot UniFi Wi-Fi Throughput Test failure

I recently moved my UniFi controller to a virtual machine, as I don’t have a Security gateway or other related Ubiquiti appliances to host this for me. Prior it used to be hosted on a Raspberry Pi 3, which doesn’t support Gigabit networking, making my Wi-Fi throughput tests partially inaccurate. I wasn’t able to hit the maximum throughput since the controller only has a 100Mbps ethernet port.

Moving on to the point of this post, the throughput test wouldn’t work after moving the machine. I don’t quite remember having to do this before and the app will yell at you if the port isn’t allowed.

If you’re running on version of Ubuntu or CentOS, the follow command will permanently add port 6789 TCP to your firewall. The next command will restart the firewall service.

firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=6789/tcp

firewall-cmd --reload
